Dr. Ronit Katz, MD

Colonel (CA) Ronit Katz, MD  FACPM is the California State Guard (CSG) State Surgeon-General and a Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine & Medical Center (Adj.)

As the CSG State Surgeon, Professor Katz provides policy and guidance to the Joint Medical Command. This includes the Army, Air and Maritime CSG members. The State Surgeon also provides primary medical advice to the CSG Commanding Major General . She is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford University Medical Center, and Director of Post Deployment Health Services & Clinics for the War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (CA-WRIISC) in the Palo Alto VA, where she treats patients and teaches the new Stanford doctors and medical students. 

Dr. Katz provides her expertise in occupational and environmental medicine to the CA WRIISC team.  She is Board Certified in Preventive, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, an ACOEM member, and a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine. 

Dr. Katz serves on many boards and committees for local and national professional organizations, including Medical Director (Act.) at Stanford University Medical Center, Judge for the AMA Research Symposium, AMA-IMG Scientific Committee, AMA-IMG Nominating Committee, Chair of the AMA-IMG Leadership Development Committee, and Chair of the AMA-IMG Governing Council.

Currently, Colonel Katz is an American Medical Association-Governing Council Member (AMA-IMGS) & Delegate to AMA-House of Delegates, and was selected from Stanford University Medical Center to be the Stanford-Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS) Representative to the AMA.

Colonel Katz attended Tel Aviv University and The Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel at age 15. She emigrated from Israel after receiving a medical degree, magna cum laude (top 1% of her class), from Tel Aviv University, Sackler Medical School. She completed a fellowship in cancer research at Tufts-New England Medical Center, and later served as a Faculty Member at the Harvard University School of Public Health. She is a recipient of Lawrence Livermore National Lab's (LLNL) “Certificate of Excellence” for outstanding performance in support of the Health Services Department, and was selected as one of the "Top Doctors in Silicon Valley."

Col (CA) Katz was also nominated by The American Medical Association to be on The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for a three year term . The LCME is an accrediting body for educational programs at schools of medicine in the United States and Canada.

In 2007, Dr. Katz received The American Medical Association’s “Excellence in Medicine and Leadership Award.” In 2013, Dr Katz received the prestigious " NASA Group Achievement Award" for her role in the NASA-AMES Human Performance Centrifuge Project Team. Colonel Katz, MD is also a Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford University Medical Center where she was awarded the "Excellent Teacher Award.” In 2018, Dr. Katz was invited by the Japan Medical Association (JMA) to be the keynote speaker at the JMA International Conference on CBRNE/Disaster Preparedness/ Counterterrorism in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
